Captured deep off-trail in rarely visited areas of El Yunque Rainforest
Deep within the mountains of Puerto Rico lies El Yunque, a rainforest protected for centuries and home to one of the most vibrant ecosystems in the Caribbean. Here the original Nikon forest images were minimally improved using AI since the forest is very dark – specially these 2013 images before Hurricane Maria in 2017 have had over 10 years to grow the canopy and absorb most of the sunlight.
These photographs were taken by Raul Garcia with a Cannon Rebel (Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi), capturing the forest’s intricate textures—leaves, roots, rivers, moss, and light.
Also since the forest is so dark most images used ISO 800 (no flash or light) – which gives a lower resolution and needed correction.
In 2013 The explorations focused on the best access to the PRISTINE forest – the 5 miles Tradewinds trail. This is the first of 2 such explorations in Jan 2013. It goes from PR 191 near the gate on top to the top of El Toro.
This trail is the best of El Yunque and we produced over 1,759 high-resolution images for that time. This trail has an enormous number of side-paths hidden next or near to amazing explorations of many wonders – so of which we have in many other collections: The Rio Sabana basin near El Cacique, The entrance to the 21 days exploring the birth of the Holy Spirit River, Water drainage formations at the beginning and many other wonders – we have for the last 2 many images…
