El Yunque Rainforest — Puerto Rico

Deep within the mountains of Puerto Rico lies El Yunque, a rainforest protected for centuries and home to one of the most vibrant ecosystems in the Caribbean. Here the original Nikon forest images were converted using AI using Japanese Zen art format, while the lower prints are converted from the photos to the Henri Rosseau and other classical nature painters styles.

These photographs were taken by Raul Garcia with a 45-megapixel Nikon D850, capturing the forest’s intricate textures—leaves, roots, rivers, moss, and light.

Between 2013 and 2020, many regions of El Yunque National Forest were explored repeatedly in search of these hidden scenes. The images come from demanding journeys through dense vegetation, often far from established trails and under constant rain, mud, and challenging terrain.

Because the canopy above is extremely dense, much of the rainforest exists in deep shadow. Using modern AI-assisted image enhancement, these photographs reveal subtle structures and details that are often difficult to perceive within the natural darkness of the forest.

Together they offer a glimpse into the quiet, living architecture of one of the most remarkable rainforests on Earth.
